Volvo was independently owned from its inception in 1927 until Ford bought it in 1999, with Chinese firm Geely then buying it in 2010. The company has built a reputation for producing safe premium cars packed with innovative features. One of its biggest success stories is the Volvo XC90, a full-size SUV that sells alongside the smaller XC60.

Volvo also produces executive saloons such as the S60 and S80, but they've always struggled to make an impact - more popular are the Volvo S40 and V50, Volvo's compact saloon and estate respectively. The C70 coupé-cabriolet is a fun offering, while Volvo's smallest car is the neatly styled Volvo C30.
