An independent company from its birth in 1947 until General Motors bought a majority stake in 1990, Saab was sold to Dutch supercar maker Spyker in 2010. Always a niche player, the Saab 9-3 is the company's biggest seller, mainly because it's the entry-level product.
Offered in saloon, estate and convertible forms, the 9-3 is one of the safest cars in its class - Saab, like fellow Swedish outfit Volvo, has a reputation for building very safe and strong cars. That's certainly the case for the Saab 9-5, an executive car designed to take on the mighty BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class.
