Malaysian company Proton was founded in 1983 and has never achieved great success in the UK. Models such as the Proton Impian offered a lot for the money and were very reliable, but there has always been very little brand awareness, guaranteeing tiny sales.
Currently on the company's price lists is the Proton Gen-2, which is good to drive but it features a poor-quality interior and odd styling, which is bound to limit sales. A better bet is the Proton Savvy supermini, which is neatly designed and not bad to drive, but once again the low-rent interior puts buyers off.
