Lots of car companies run Formula One teams - McLaren is more like a Formula One team that runs a car company. Based in Woking, Surrey, alongside the McLaren Racing operation, McLaren Automotive builds high performance sports cars like nobody else.
Few road cars have carried the famous McLaren badge but the ones that have are very special indeed. The McLaren F1 launched in 1992 and immediately redefined the supercar genre. It took years for modern hypercars to match it.
A partnership with Mercedes yielded the sophisticated Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren in 2003. More recently the McLaren MP4-12C arrived, a supercar that takes the fight to Lamborghini and Ferrari.
