Now a division of Chrysler, Jeep built its first car in 1941 as part of the war effort. After the war it was clear there was a demand for civilian 4x4s, so Jeep started producing them and has focused exclusively on them ever since. It builds several iconic models, such as the Jeep Cherokee, although more recent introductions include the Compass, Commander and Patriot.

Also a stalwart of the Jeep range is the Grand Cherokee, which is the most civilised of all the models offered. For those who like to go off-roading though, the most hard-core 4x4 offered by the company is the Jeep Wrangler.
