A luxury division of General Motors, Cadillac built its first car in 1902. For more than a century the company has managed to sell cars in decent numbers in the North American market only, despite models such as the Cadillac BLS being designed and engineered specifically for European tastes.
This small saloon and estate used Saab 9-3 underpinnings, and was joined by the Cadillac CTS, designed to take on cars such as the BMW 5-Series. Unfortunately, both of these models failed to sell, as did the Cadillac SRX crossover vehicle, largely because it was offered with a petrol engine only.
