The covers are barely off the new SLS and already Mercedes is testing a convertible version, likely to cost over £200K.
This should come as no surprise of course, the 300SL Gullwing the SLS harks back to also gaining a roadster version.
Indeed, the soft-top 300SL actually out-sold the Gullwing and was on sale into the early 60s, setting the mould for generations of Mercedes SL to follow. But it was a very different car to the coupe.
But what about the SLS roadster? Well, if you want luxury open-top Mercedes two-seater with a folding metal hardtop you can still go for an SL. And the AMG versions are super fast with it.
