Woman to run 1,000km on racetracks

An athletic woman is aiming to run a total of 1,000km – 620 miles – while taking in many of Europe’s most famous racetracks along the way. Victoria Young is completing the mammoth event with an aim of finishing the distance during 2012.

Young’s project is already under way and is raising money for the Child Bereavement Charity and Cancer Research UK. She is aiming to get 1,000 people to donate £2 each, raising a total of £2,000 to split equally between the two charities.

Young says her two passions are “running and motorsport” and that her quest was inspired by the death of her grandfather in 2008, and, “for all of us who have had someone important to them die.”

The intrepid athlete and fundraiser has already completed 617km of her task – around 386 miles – and lapped the Thruxton circuit back in January, Goodwood in February, Silverstone in March, Zolder, Belgium in May and both Rockingham and Donington in June.

She says there are just two strict rules she has to adhere to in trying to complete here challenge: “treadmill usage does not count and to do as many runs as possible in interesting places, especially motor racing circuits!”

Young aims to run a 21km loop of the Nürburgring in September.

The Nürburgring: What’s the fuss about?

So far, she’s raised a grand total of £684. For more information on Victoria’s missions visit her blog or to donate to the ‘Challenge 1000’ fund raising event, visit the expeditino’s Just Giving page.
