MG has supplied a fleet of cars to the Jamaican and US Olympic training camps in Birmingham – which will see the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, being driven in an MG6.

The smart deal by MG sees MG6s supplied to the University of Birmingham for use by the Jamaican Olympic team and to the Alexander Stadium to transport the American team.

MG is also hoping to get some of the athletes along to its assembly plant on the former Longbridge site in Birmingham.

Sprinters Yohan Blake, Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay will also travel in the fleet of MGs, all of which have been liveried in the Jamaican and US flags. They’ll be guaranteed an audience too: local schools across Birmingham have been invited to the training events.

Gary Egan, MG’s senior operations manager, said: “We are very proud to support both the Jamaican and American training camps.

“The MG6 cars will swallow all their kit bags with ease and the cars will help them get around Birmingham in comfort and style.”

The creative PR deal will provide some much-needed publicity for MG: last month, the fledgling brand sold just 19 cars in the UK.
