Top Gear powers into Guinness World Records

Top Gear powers into Guinness World Records

Top Gear is in the news again – but this time it’s not because of something Jeremy said.

It’s officially the most watched factual TV programme in the world, a statistic that has landed the BBC’s hugely successful franchise a place in the 2013 Guinness Book of Records.

According to a report on the Top Gear website, messrs May, Clarkson and Hammond are watched in 212 countries around the globe – with their unique brand of motoring-related humour and octane-fuelled larks appealing to viewers from ‘Ghana to Guatamala and Moldova to Myanmar’.

Don’t adjust your eyes – yes, the record is for the most watched factual programme. That’s despite the show having frequently been mired in hysterical controversy and accused of being all-too-keen to gloss over the facts in favour of entertainment. Just ask Tesla, or Mexico. Or truck drivers….

Accepting the 2013 Guinness World Records Book on behalf of his two sidekicks and the rest of the show, Clarkson remarked:

“I am very proud to be involved in such a factual programme.” Very droll, Jeremy.
