Sebastian Vettel does a pop video
He’s only just out of short trousers and already has two Formula 1 world titles to his name, but now Red Bull’s star driver is appearing in a Canadian R&B video – namely Melanie Fiona’s new ‘Watch Me Work’ promo.
That’s right, stop the press: Sebastian Vettel has done a pop video. If you had a mouthful of coffee when you read that, we apologise.
Why? You may well ask. Apparently the video is the latest in the “Infiniti Inspired Performers” series, which sees Red Bull drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber collaborating with various other “top performers” in different disciplines.
The premise of the video is thus: Vettel, a modern day James Dean, is scouring the edgy neighbourhoods of downtown New York in his Infiniti G37 convertible, looking to find Melanie and her sidekicks a place to perform.
Happening on a conveniently deserted warehouse space, the young champ neatly skids his Infiniti into place, and hops out of the car with his musical cohort. Seb then does a bit of an impromptu sound-check before deciding his work is done, and powering away into the Manhattan sunset at the wheel of the posh red Nissan.
Commenting on the video, Formula One’s youngest champion said:
“It was a great experience to shoot a music video, and certainly very different to what I’m used to. But music is without question an inspiration to many and I’m very proud to have been part of this. I think the lyrics are quite fitting to what we can all do if we put our mind to it.”
Quite right, Sebastian. And what does Infiniti, Nissan’s upmarket offshoot have to do with Canadian-born R&B star Melanie Fiona? Well apparently her family has driven them for years, so she is no stranger to ‘inspired performance’. So now you know.
What next? Mark Webber as guest MC on a forthcoming Dizzee Rascal number? You heard it here first…
