This exotic looking streak of maroon is the Rimac Concept_One - an all-carbonfibre creation from Croatian supercar constructor Rimac Automobili, set to make its UK debut at next month's Salon Prive auto show. It certainly looks pretty good on the outside, but does it have the credentials under the skin to back up its arresting shape?

It looks a fantastic car, If you can afford one? Why can a Country like Croatia build a car like this beauty? But the UK and the USA are struggling to build one that can only go a 100miles and then you have to charge it? It seems the large Petrol/Oil groups don't like a car that does not need fuel anymore. If a car was built that could run on battery power and charged itself would that not be wonderful! Will it ever happen, when the big fuel companies could no longer rip us off?

Electric cars in the UK do more harm than good. We do not generate electricity from renewable energy sources so there is no point having them. Everyone thinks that electric cars are amazing but until the country sorts out how electricity is created it is a pointless argument. We use coal and natural gasses to make electricity.

Get Clarkson and Co involved and let's see if it's really that good, and if so, see if a car
manufacturer will take up the challenge to make an everyday model. Then tell the
middle east to shove their oil and rely on a more substainable power supply that is
closer to home.

I presume that all of the town's lights go out when this beast is on charge! Electric propulsion is currently only held back by battery technology, which will surely catch up. Power outputs of electric motors are phenominal, they are compact and they feature only one moving part, so mechanical efficiency is not compromised. The only problem, then, will be, how does the Exchequer get its hands on our money, as it currently does through fuel duty, VAT and the laughlingly titled 'Road Fund Licence'?
In a much smaller, although related, field, electric model aircraft, cars and boats used to be a joke amongst 'true' modellers, to whom only ic power was considered 'right'. Now look at the performance capabilities of model electric flight, car racing and boating - it is staggeringly different to only ten years ago. Dismiss electric propulsion at your peril!

are you telling me that croatia can build a car with that spec, while all the motor manufacturers cannot produce anything near it, in power or reliability of mileage, either the specs wrong or all the motor manufacturers are useless. would love to know more.

No mention of how long it would take to full recharge the power pack, would probably work out less down time if you bought a smart car, doing the same distance in less time. Would it not be better to build a charging system into the body work, sun rays and all that, solar panels?

Advancement in electric motorised vehicles is being held back by the very powerful Oil companies because they have so much to lose. Every time an advancement was made in fuel economy before the oil shortage the big motor and oil companies bought the patents and then promptly shelved them.
The car looks great but how well will it perform when a 25 stone person gets behind the wheel,thats if they fit of course :)

Don't worry Norman. They will find a way. How about making all cars have a certain type of charger fitting that you have to connect to a power up station that sells electricity at 20 times the domestic cost.

It still takes barrel loads of oil to make electric cars..... Tyres alone, never mind all the plastic, wiring cases and then transporting it...... It's all a governmental conspiracy....! Nice looking car though.
