MSN Cars is delighted to announce that the Range Rover Evoque has been named the winner of the eighth annual MSN Cars Car of the Year award.

With a top speed of 135mph and the ability to go from 0 to 60mph in 7.1 seconds, the iconic Range Rover Evoque roared to the top of the annual poll, with more than 30,000 readers voting for the cars that have most captured their imaginations over the past 12 months.

The Range Rover Evoque collected 12% of the total votes to take the top spot, with two other home-grown rivals rounding out the top three. The Aston Martin Virage claimed second spot with 9% of the votes, followed by the McLaren MP4-12C with 8%.

On receiving the award, Richard Else, Director, Jaguar Land Rover Halewood Operations, said: "I am delighted to accept the MSN Cars Car of the Year award on behalf of the plant and also the wider company. It is always great to receive external awards for our products - especially when the recognition comes from members of the public.

"We have been overwhelmed by the extremely positive reaction to the Evoque and are working hard here at Halewood to continue the delivery of an outstanding vehicle to our customers."

Tom Evans, managing editor of MSN Cars, comments: "With over 30,000 votes, this year's competition generated a great deal of public interest. The MSN Cars Car of the Year award is often won by supercars like the Audi R8 or Ferrari 458 Italia. I'm really pleased to see our prize being won by a car that many people can realistically aspire to own.

"The Evoque is a thoroughly worthy winner, and a British one too. The enthusiasm for this global smash hit is palpable. It has gorgeous looks, strong performance both on and off the road, and can still return up to 63 milesper gallon. Huge congratulations to everyone at Land Rover."

These websites hate when you write a short book about a subject - don't they! It mysteriously gets interupted when you've nearly finished. Time for a lube I think! Smile

Sorry don't do jealousy. And I'm not angry,

If I was lucky enough to acquire lots of money/ win the lottery I certainly would not go out and waste thousands of pounds on a so called "luxury car".

Actually I have a very nice Mazda thank you very much which is quite adequate for my needs.

I'm all for Land rover (Tata) but why the aggressive styling? Seems like all cars these days are styled by 15 year old lads who spend way too much time on computer games.

STOP designing these nasty, peevish looking faces on cars.

Beware of the chickens.

I wrote a comment on the evoques practicality and how we found it, wether its good looking or the people who buy them are moronic is subjective and an individual choice.
Seems to me you are a bit of an angry so and so who dislikes anyone who has made a few quid, so its you who should get a life, jealousy only eats away at the jealous one.
i suppose if you come into money you will be an inverted snob and run around in an old banger held together by gaffer tape , dont think so, do you ?.
Feel sorry for you.

Beware of the chickens perhaps you should get a life as you seem a bit of an angry person who dislikes any one who has a bob or two or has done well.
I posted an honest comment about a the evoque having had one for a few months. The evoque may not be everyones cup of tea but i merely commented on its practicality as a vehicle, i didnt comment on wether it was a good looking vehicle or the type of people that buy them as that is subjective and each individuals opinion.
I assume if you one day had more money than sense you would drive a 10 year old banger hung together by gaffer tape and snub expensive cars, pity this country is full of jealous to*ls like you.

Looks like a pile of crap and driven by people who have more money than sense. Oh Ms Beckham fits the bill quite nicely. I dare say that idiot Clarkson wants/ drives one as well. To the person who posted that his wife has one and he has a Carrera GTS,  Go and get a life.

I dont know if any of you have driven the Evoque but my wife has the 5 door version. She drove all 4wd vehicles from the Cayenne down to the Rav and felt more at home in the Evoque, it has nearly all the off road stuff that the sport has and is the right size for a medium height woman, as far as the Beckham comment, the Evoque isnt too dissimilar from the sport inside so i assume she has had little input. My lad is 6 foot 4 and sits in the back with no problem, load space is a bit small but usually there is only the mrs in it and you can drop the seats if you have a big shop.
we live in a small village and need a 4wd and the evoque performed well in the snow and holds 4 adults very easy.
As far as feeling daft driving it, i drive a Carrera GTS and i can only say the evoque performs very well and is a nippy vehicle. We bought the basic pure with auto and bigger engine, panoramic roof and it was 34k, not bad when you compare an equivalent CRV.

Rover may be made in the UK but it is an Indian company that owns it. If you buy a Rover you certainly aren't flying the flag for the UK.

Shame that the Evoque is fashion rather than function for f$%ks sake they got Miserable Ms Beckham involved in the design, as a car is is totally useless, no headroom in the back, cargo space is awful and unless my maths is bad what happened to the other 30% of the votes?

How many of these voters have any working information or experience of the motor industry? Range Rover have a dreadful reputation for reliability, faults and costly repairs after warranty. I can only assume the votes have been collected on the general publics idea that if driving one of these they will somehow emulate some awful reality TV person. I purposely have not used the word personality as most of them appear not to have one.
