Prince Charles’ Aston Martin to make £70k at auction

On 19 May a 1994 Aston Martin Virage Volante 6.3 litre convertible, loaned to Prince Charles from 1994-2007 by Aston Martin is going up for sale. The car is expected to make up to £70,000.
Prince Charles has a famous of collection of cars, but he is particularly fond of his Astons. That DB6 mk2 made so famous by Prince William and Catherine Middleton's wedding day, was reportedly given to him by the Queen for his 21st birthday, and is just one of an impressive array of cars lurking behind the palace gates.
This special edition Virage Volante model has a guide price of £50,000-£70,000 and features British Racing Green non-metallic paint, a green Everflex roof, mushroom coloured leather upholstery, black leather dashboard top and green carpets.

The car's 6.3-litre engine produces 456bhp, 460lb ft of torque, 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of up to 174mph. The production car was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1991. During its royal stint it clocked up just 33,960 miles and was regularly serviced at Aston Martin's headquarters...with a service booklet to prove it.
In 2007/8 the car was returned to Aston Martin's headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire, where it was put on display. Its return coincided with an eco-project, led by Works Service, to convert HRH's DB6 mk2 Volante to run on bio-ethanol fuel (or British wine). This was part of an initiative led by the prince, which saw him convert many of his vehicles to run on bio-diesel made from cooking oil.
The car will be auctioned by Bonhams on 19 May so get your bidding fingers ready.

This was a loan car, so Astons get the money. Audi provide loan cars for all the royals, wonder if they would let me borrow a car for a year and at the end of the year loan me another new, latest model car, oh damn, no I have to pay for my own car and theirs! No wonder Audi keep putting up their prices!

I would buy it but dont like green cars, green cars are statistically more liable to be in an accident.The Chinese are likely to buy it anyway giving £150,000.I dont think the money would go to him anyway, not if the car was loaned to him.

What a sad bunch of responses to the news of Charles' loan car being sold by its owners - Aston Martin. The indiluted envy and sourness is galling. Sure, the UK is suffering, but that does not give one a licence to pontificate on the wealth or value or contribution of others, including Prince Charles. He has done a lot for the UK, whose international prestige has a great deal to do with its solid foundations of constitutional monarchy and elected parliament. Charles is also the best trained and educated Prince of Wales and Heir to the Throne in centuries. He is light years ahead of some elected officials sporting two jaguars and fiddling expenses, who don't give a hoot about the environment. He will make a better King than some Britons deserve.

Yes, very confusing. Methinks the person who posted this article didnt notice there were two different cars shown but that there was a green coloured car being sold. MSN are playing their 'Spot our mistake' card again.

What muppet at MSN can't see that there are two different cars in these pics? For those who may be confused, the VIrage being sold is the first one featured, the second is an '86 DBS V8 Volante which remains in the Prince's collection.

Mr. Morse, although Charles get his money from the Duchy, he pays very LITTLE tax as has been shown on a regular basis, so we, the tax payers of this country are subsidising Charles and the rest of the Royal Family. Do I want a republic, no, but it would be better if the whole of this country came into the 21st century instead of clinging to the past. We are broke, trillions in debt and the excess that this man indulges in is an insult to the people of this country, do you have a man to put the toothpaste onto your toothbrush and to run your bath?

Royalty in this country expect the rest of us to be loyal, despite them rubbing our noses in it with actions and stories such as this one.
We have enough worries with insecure employment, being punished for the failings of the world banks and global warming to be bothered by this.
This country is run and ruined by nepotism. It is about time we are rewarded for hard work and ingenuity, and not where you went to school, or who was your uncle, father or otherwise.
The UK no longer has the income to support the lifestyles of these people. There should be an in depth enquiry on where the money came from for his Aston collection. If I or anyone without a title ever has more than one car, we will get a large tax bill through the door. This country is stll an aristocracy, but through the back door.

Mathew Clarke - elitist bullsh*t i'm afraid, 90% of people in the high paid jobs walk into them through who they know or where they went to school, they work no harder (and in most circumstances significantly less) than 'normally' paid people. Also they are greedy and want more and more and this resulted in the economy nearly collapsing completly.
