Paris Motor Show 2012 round up

MSN Car's top five choices of everything from the weirdest to the greenest

Paris Motor Show 2012 round up

Here’s a quick categorised round up of  some of MSN Cars’ favourite cars on display at the Paris Motor Show 2012.

PARIS MOTOR SHOW 2012: THE WEIRDEST CARS ON DISPLAY

5 ) Wallycars Izis

The Wallycars – seriously – Izis is a Tunisian-built mini-4×4. Apparently an all-electric version is on the way…

4 ) PGO Hemera

PGO is a French company that builds strange Porsche 356 replicas. The Hemera is a kind of shooting brake variant. Weird indeed.

3 ) Venturi America (pictured above)

Venturi famously (err…) built an early electric supercar call the Fetish; this is the beach buggy alternative, labelled America. Yours for over £200k. Right.

2 ) Nissan TerRRA FCEV

Nissan’s TeRRA SUV concept features hydrogen fuel cell power – which is neat – and somewhat challenging looks – which are not.

1 ) Smart ForStars

Tackling the concept car challenge head-on, the Smart ForStars features funky looks and a movie projector built into the bonnet. Weird, but we love it.

PARIS MOTOR SHOW 2012: THE BEST ELECTRIC CARS

5 ) Nissan TeRRA FCEV

Weird or not, the Nissan TeRRA is certainly electric – it’s powered by a hydrogen fuel cell that uses a chemical reaction to create the juice, emitting only water vapour in the process.

4 ) Smart ForStars

Having had a good look under the Smart ForStars concept at Paris, we can confirm it does indeed appear to be electric. So it’s not all nonsense, then…

3 ) Exagon Furtive-eGT

The Exagon Furtive-eGT is a French, all-electric supercar – plenty of carbonfibre and impressive looking engineering make it one to watch.

2 ) Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell

Another fuel cell SUV – the difference is that Hyundai is actually bringing this space-age version of the ix35 crossover to the market. You can order one now.

1 ) Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive

All-electric version of the Mercedes SLS has even more power than the V8 – if not quite the same level of performance. Hell of a colour, too. Yours for around £320k.

PARIS MOTOR SHOW 2012: THE GREENEST SUPERCARS

5 ) McLaren P1

The McLaren P1 is an “ultra sports car” (that’s hypercar to you and me), so it’s hard to imagine its very green. But incredible aerodynamics and a mooted hybrid drivetrain promise surprising efficiency.

4 ) Peugeot Onyx

Not only is the Peugeot Onyx supercar concept powered by a hybrid turbodiesel V8 (good for 680hp), it also uses “newspaper wood” for the dashboard. Recycling at its fastest.

3 ) Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo

The Panamera Sport Turismo concept follows on from the 918 Spyder as Porsche second plug-in hybrid. Its modest V6 is a little more down to earth than the 918′s race derived V8, however.

2 ) Exagon Furtive-eGT

How could we resist the Furtive-eGT? This bespoke all-electric supercar combines its carbonfibre construction with twin electric motors that deliver a total of 402hp. Ooh la la.

1 ) Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive

Still not convinced about that Mercedes SLS Electric Drive? Consider this: it has 750hp and 737lb ft of torque. It’s going to shove you in the back like that irritating dude at a rock concert.

5 ) Honda CR-V

All-new Honda CR-V is actually available as a two-wheel drive variant for the first time. 4X4 versions still key to this successful dynasty of soft-roaders, though.

4 ) Chevrolet Trax

Chevrolet’s version of the Vauxhall Mokka brings the American brand’s big and brash SUV styling to the compact crossover segment. Yeehaw.

3 ) Audi Crosslane Coupe concept

Audi’s Crosslane Coupe concept suggests the design-led German marque is looking to seriously challenge the Evoque. Can’t wait to see if the targa top makes it to production.

2 ) MINI Paceman

MINI just keeps on expanding – the Paceman is a three-door coupe version of the over-sized Countryman. Sharp design and trendy image suggests a sales success.

1 ) Range Rover

The daddy of all premium 4X4s is back with a brand new model that’s set to upset many a luxury car, let alone rival SUVs. Superb engineering and all-aluminium construction.

The Adams assault on the fashion-conscious small car market starts here. More convincing in the metal than in the pictures, the huge range of personalisation options is sure to impress.

4 ) Jaguar F-Type

Stunning new sports car from Jaguar aims to split the difference between the Boxster and the 911. A dangerous strategy, but the F-Type might just have the chops to pull it off.

3 )  Renault Clio

Vital new Clio supermini for Renault looks good and offers bags of tech, but left us a little uninspired by its interior quality. Strong engine choice, though, and sure to be fun to drive.

2 ) Ford Mondeo

The new Ford Mondeo – known as the Fusion in the USA – looks absolutely fabulous and, according to our early report, drives very well, too. One to watch.

1 ) Volkswagen Golf

The Golf sets the benchmark for the family hatchback sector, and the new 7th generation car looks certain to maintain that priority. Shame VW didn’t make it look a little more fancy – or is that the secret to its appeal?
