Paris 2012 debut for new Mazda 6 Estate

Good news, Fido: the all-new Mazda 6 estate is to have its world premiere at the 2012 Paris Motor Show this month.

Already showcased in saloon form at the recent Moscow Motor Show, the Mazda 6 goes on sale in the UK later this year.

In contrast to the petrol-only saloon line-up in Moscow, the 6 estate is presenting Mazda’s latest “Skyactiv-D” 2.2-litre turbodiesel, which will come in both high and low powered versions.

No matter which you choose, Mazda is promising high economy and low emissions. Indeed, the engine is already slated to meet future EU6 emissions regulations. A 2.0-litre petrol, labelled Skyactiv-G, is also offered.

Mazda is making a lot of noise over the improved responsiveness and dynamics of the new 6, though we wouldn’t go trading in the BMW 3-Series Touring just yet – not until we’ve tried it on UK roads at any rate.

Alongside its “Kodo: soul of motion” design theme, and the new engines, the Mazda 6 also showcases the full range of the company’s Skyactiv technologies. It is the first car to feature the company’s new i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration technology for example. Scavenging the energy usually wasted under braking and storing it in a highly responsive capacitor – a world first – this should bring tangible gains to both fuel economy and CO2 emissions.

Full price and specification details for the new Mazda 6 are expected to be confirmed after its official unveiling. The Paris Motor Show opens to the public on 29 September and runs until 14 October. MSN Cars will be there.
