Nissan teases 2012 Sao Paulo Concept

Sporty new Nissan showcar promises "real drama" and debuts in Brazil next week

Nissan teases 2012 Sao Paulo Concept

Nissan has revealed the first teaser images of a brand new concept, set to debut at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil next week.

Described as a “high-character” concept introducing a “unique new genre to the automotive world” Nissan has certainly captured our curiosity, saying it’s “Bold, vibrant, passionate… and that’s just the colour!” But what on earth is it exactly?

From what we can make out in the images, the Sao Paulo Nissan showcar definitely looks sporty – with hints of GT-R around the headlights and the grille design.

This has prompted speculation that it’s some kind of compact new coupe – which ties in very neatly with recent rumours that Nissan is set to resurrect the 240Z.

However, when viewed from the rear – the teaser of which we’ve placed on the MSN Cars Inside Track blog – there seems to be a great deal of space between the top of the front tyre and the bodywork, suggesting wheel travel more in keeping with an SUV or crossover than a sports car.

For the concept to be “genuinely new”, as Nissan Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Shiro Nakamura claims, it couldn’t possibly be either of these things. But could it be a combination of both?

It’s also worth noting that Nissan has deliberately avoided showing us the roof.

Whatever it is, Nissan says we should “be prepared for some real drama” when Nakamura whips the covers off next week. MSN Cars will be there – look out for our first hand report.
