The RS Plus uses the standard TT RS’s 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo motor, but Audi has further tuned the unit to extract 20hp and 11lb ft more – output now stands at 360hp and 343lb ft of torque.

Increasing power and torque for the TT RS Plus has improved performance – the car’s 0-62mph time drops to 4.3 seconds (4.1 when specced with the optional S Tronic dual-clutch gearbox) compared to the TT RS’s 4.5, while top speed is now capped at 174mph for all models.

The hottest TT is available with Audi’s optional dual-clutch gearbox in both coupé and roadster guise, costing £1,340. A six-speed manual transmission is fitted as standard.

Despite an increase in performance, the TT RS Plus is no less efficient than the normal TT RS, with the S Tronic-equipped cars returning the same 33.2mpg combined with 197g/km CO2, and 32.8mpg combined with 199g/km CO2 for the coupé and roadster respectively.

The Plus is distinguished from the standard RS by its 19-inch rotor design alloys, as well as a matte aluminium grille with different coloured mesh. The RS Plus also gets carbon fibre door mirrors and a standard-fit sports exhaust with dual black tailpipes.

Inside, Audi’s Technology pack – sat-nav Bluetooth and an iPod connection – is fitted as standard, and there’s more TT RS Plus badging to drive home you’re sat in the TT flagship.

The Audi TT RS Plus is available to order in early May priced from £48,945 and £50,265 for coupé and roadster models – a £3,085 premium over the TT RS – with first customer deliveries commencing this summer.
