Lucky escape: truck flattens car in China

Lucky escape: truck flattens car in China

Do they have lotteries in China? Because if they do the man in the Volkswagen above should be putting some money on right now. And if you can’t see the VW in the picture, look again. We didn’t spot it the first time either.

Yes, that’s right – it’s a pancake. And yes there really was a man inside. But before you think we’ve gone all morbid, he not only got out alive, he apparently escaped serious injury.

The truck on top of it was fully laden with gravel when it tipped over, so the emergency services had to shift the aggregate out of the way before a crane could be brought in to lift it from the car.

For this they used shovels and, in some instances, their bare hands – only to discover the first crane on the scene wasn’t strong enough to shift the truck. This meant waiting for a second, more heavy-duty affair to arrive.

Once the truck was moved, fire-fighters were able to cut the roof from the Volkswagen and begin freeing the man trapped inside. After an hour of work they were finally able to get him to a nearby hospital.

At the hospital several bones were found to be broken, but none of the injuries were described as life threatening. An incredibly lucky escape indeed.
