London 2012 Olympics MINI special edition

MINI has launched a limited edition ‘London 2012 special’ range to mark its official partner status with Team GB and ParalympicsGB.

The special MINIs are offered in three Union Jack-inspired colours of red, white silver or blue: all feature a Union Jack sport stripe that runs across the bonnet, roof and tailgate.

This complements a roof that’s clad in the official London 2012 Olympic logo – and, to assure it of further collectability, MINI is limiting production numbers to 2,012 models.

They’ll be available in Cooper, Cooper D, Cooper S and Cooper SD trims.

Impressively, the bespoke features carry through to the interior, too: it’s far more than just a badged-up special. On the piano black dashboard trim, for example, is etched a London skyline silhouette, showing landmarks such as Tower Bridge and Battersea Power Station.

There’s red and blue stitching for the white-piped black leather seats, plus Union Jack piping for the headrests and a London 2012 logo for both front seatbacks.

MINI has also upped the standard equipment, with those Lounge Leather seats, DAB, cruise control and extended chrome pack.

Prices for the Cooper start at £17,800, around £3,000 more than the standard cars – so, they’re not cheap. But the bespoke nature and extra equipment should mean they’re worth it.

Incidentlaly, although MINI’s parent firm BMW Group is the London 2012 Olympics official automotive partner, MINI is in addition a supporter of Team GB and ParalympicsGB, hence the new range of special editions to enhance the firm’s London Olympics involvement.
