It's a Lada - but not as we know it. This brand new X-Ray concept has just debuted at the Moscow Motor Show, and for anyone who remembers what the last Ladas sold in the UK were like it's going to come as an enormous surprise.

Now that is a big surprise. My uncle had a Niva when i was a kid and always used to ask what the second gearbox was used for. Took me on a small but my first offroad experience and i loved the car for life. The X-ray concept looks fantastic.

Now that is a nice looking car, I don't normally like the 4X4 stuff, but this one is nice, the Lada stigma might not help, but will keep the price down, they just need to prove themselves to be a worthy car manufacturer, look how long its taken Skoda with the VW group, lets hope the actual car is the same as the concept and not something completely different as normally happens.

If the utterly unreliable Ranger Rover can sell well then this will have no problems.
Being a mechanic myself i would never buy a Ranger Rover after seeing the epic list of faults they have had over the years, i would happily buy the Lada if i had a choice between the two.

actually that is a sweet looking ride but as mr Keen says they never look like the concepts when they come off of the production line. As for range rover they cost a fortune to buy to repair and to run and are always breaking down an awful lot of money for a name.

As long as reliability and build quality have been addressed, who cares about the stigma attached to this name? Personally, I think this is a good looking motor, shame they didn't really think about the colour scheme more if this is supposed to promote any future sales. I like the look of this beast, the panoramic roof, doors, front and back end, even the interior (excluding the colour) are great. If Lada have researched their previous shortfalls then I can see this becoming an exclusive motor......there will always be some that just do not want to drive around in a Lada, but if this ends up being good, then I imagine they will be quite rare and that's got to be good for depreciation values!! If it is brought into production, my opinion may change, for better or worse, depending on having seen the finished article.

Good looking car. One caveat would be that, given the build quality of Lada's of the past, this may be strictly on-road but since so many of them never venture far from the highway anyway, this would be an ideal SUV for the urban driver.
One huge problem, of course, will be the name. Lada doesn't have necessary class to suit some drivers. In the past they were bought by drivers whose budget was very limited and, even then, their cars were worth nothing after a few years.
If it's actually ever produced and actually comes to the UK, it may take a trick.
Shame that there are no dealers left here and those that sold them in the past have probably moved on to marques with a slightly better reputation.

I loved my Lada Cossack. Although it spent more time off road, or should i say off the road, broke down most of the time, still loved it though, they need to do a proper rugged version of this, I'd buy one.. good luck Lada.

Why do Lada's have rear screen heaters...... So you can warm your hands while your pushing them.

they used to laugh at skoda ..... they dont now as they got bought by VW ...
they took cheep laybour and eastern european work ethic and matched it with west tecnology and now they out sell alot of western names ....
LADA could do the same a country screeming for jobs ... cheep laybour ....and a good work ethic
if they built this i would test drive one at least

Russia & Eastern Europe produced some great concepts in the past but lacked the ability to create a quality product. Previous Ladas had great wallet appeal, below average showroom appeal and little user appeal. Now if the product performs well & lasts it may have a chance.
On the other hand we still rarely see Dacias here even though their quality has increasd enormously in the last 10 years. Something to do with the cost of conversion to RHD making it uneconomic to pursue the UK market I think.
