Kia Pro_cee’d three-door coming to Paris

Kia has unveiled its new Pro_cee’d three-door hatchback – a sportier version of its five-door Cee’d model. The new car will make its public debut at this month’s 2012 Paris Motor Show.
According to Kia, the second-generation Pro_cee’d “features all the improvements made to the Cee’d five-door and Cee’d Sportswagon, while dramatically progressing the enhanced sporty appearance that made its predecessor so popular.”

The Pro_cee’d receives the same engine line-up as the five-door vehicle, comprising two petrol and two turbodiesel engines.
A 98hp 1.4- and a 133hp 1.6-litre petrol engine will be available, while 1.4 and 1.6 turbodiesel engines – producing 89hp and 126hp respectively – will also be on offer.
Stop-start is an option on 1.6-litre engine variants helping improve efficiency. In the five-door car, the more powerful turbodiesel is the most efficient choice, returning 76.3mpg combined with 97g/km CO2 – expect this to be similar in the three-door pro_cee’d.
The direct-injection 1.6-litre petrol engine, meanwhile, gets the option of a dual-clutch transmission.
The base-spec ‘1’ trim level should offer the same comprehensive level of equipment as in the five-door cee’d. This includes air conditioning, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, front electric windows, a cooled glovebox, an iPod connection, Bluetooth, hill-start assist and six airbags.
Above this there will be four more trim levels: 2, 3, 4 and the range-topping 4 Tech specification. The Pro_cee’d will also come with Kia’s usual seven-year warranty.
The new car will go on sale in 2013, although Kia is yet to confirm pricing. Expect things to begin at around £14,000 for the entry-level Pro_cee’d 1 model.
