It's not the sort of disaster likely to befall secret agent James Bond: this 007-style Aston Martin DB5 was caught in floodwater in Oxfordshire, after melted snow inundated several areas around the UK.
The DB5 - made famous by Ian Fleming's spy in films such as Goldfinger and the recent box office hit Skyfall - was left stranded after its owner apparently tried to ford deep water that had gathered under a bridge near Brize Norton.

The depth post shows that the water is just over 2 feet deep, was the driver stupid or blind, probably Mark is right, insurance scam.

Why the hell would you want to take a piece of motoring history out in such bad weather. The owner simply doesn't deserve to own it!!!!!!!!!

Someone, whether the driver was from out of the area or not is immaterial, if a driver is observing the road, particularly when approaching a flooded hazard as here, he would be checking any warning signs or depth markers, how you can say that he did not see this one is unbelievable, unless excess speed was involved.

It has to be either, as Mark Buckley says, a deliberate insurance attempt, or the driver was mentally deranged. Hope the insurance company do not pay up.

Water cannot flood the exhaust pipe. So long as the engine is running the exhaust pressure from the engine will keep the water out. What has probably happened here is that water has either entered the engine through the air intake or has swamped the electrics. Judging by the depth of the water at the location of the car I would assume that the driver entered the flooded area going to fast and caused the electrics to be covered with the spray from the wash and short curcuit the system. That is the usual cause of the problem. Excessive speed. The driver is at fault.
Slow down to a crawl, 1st gear, low speed, slip the clutch and keep the engine revs at about 1500 and so long as the water does not get into the air intake or flood the electrics you will be OK. But as someone has already spotted the depth of the water ahead is two feet. So the driver, male or female, was a total idiot.

Ive messed on with cars for years, and have dealt with crash damaged and flood damaged cars. This car is now worthless, the ones that have been water damaged never go back the same. such a shame its happened to this beautiful old girl.

The drivers of these cars seem either dumb or accident-prone.
A few years ago I saw one spun out on the eastbound M4 by Heathrow Airport. The road was dry and dead straight.

You're basically calling someone I know a criminal, he's the least likely person I know to make a bogus insurance claim.
He's gutted as he spent a small fortune getting it in show condition. Wouldn't you be defensive if it was someone you know?
I would not start to call someone I did not know a pr1ck and then claim that I was 100 times a better man then them. It just shows up as a completly inadequate character.
For your info I served for a number of years in the armed forces, youngest captain, decorated and wounded in the Falklands, I spend, when back mobile, 6 months of my year helping the less fortunate here and in the US, the rest of the year I run the family farm, I am a member of the local mountain rescue team. What have you done?
