How fast were the real silver arrows?
Even by modern standards, these cars were quick. The Type A was the first in a series of Auto Union machines that would run on to the 1938 Type D. It had a supercharged 4.4-litre V16 engine that generated 291hp and could reach 174mph. That must have seemed doubly quick in an open cockpit car with little concession to driver safety.
