How did John get the information he needed for his Auto Union Type A model?

He negotiated access to the D'Ietern Gallery in Belgium, one of the world's most secretive car vaults, where the only full-size replica of an Auto Union Type A is stored. The photos and precise measurements he took while he was there formed the basis of his model.
