Ferrari F40 world record set at Silverstone Classic

A world record 60-strong parade of Ferrari’s F40 supercar took to the Silverstone GP circuit at the annual Silverstone Classic event last weekend, celebrating the seminal supercar’s 25th birthday.

The parade of red F40s was the star attraction in the cavalcade of road cars and led out a procession of over 400 rare and exotic motors, including British marques TVR, Lotus, Triumph, Austin Healey and MG.

Built between 1987 and 1992 to celebrate the illustrious carmaker’s 40th anniversary, the Ferrari F40 was the world’s first 200mph production car, with a top speed of 201mph.

The Italian thoroughbred uses a twin turbocharged 2.9-litre V8 producing 478hp – combined with a 1,110kg curb weight it’ll see the F40 rip from stationary to 62mph in 3.8 seconds. 1,315 examples were originally built over the five-year production run, making it one of the rarest Ferraris ever made.

The Silverstone Classic also played host to another first, with the inaugural UK BMW ‘Z-Fest’ to celebrate 60 years of the German firm’s roadster series.

Hundreds of Z1, Z3, Z4 and Z8 vehicles participated in a special parade lap organised by the BMW Car Club GB.

According to BMW Car Club GB general manager, Steve Miller, “we wanted to do something spectacular to mark our anniversary and staging the UK’s first Z-Fest certainly fitted the bill.

“It really was something special and was undoubtedly this summer’s big event for Zed enthusiasts both in the UK and on the continent.”

Now in its 22nd year, the Silverstone Classic showcased over 800 fabulous exotic vehicles from the road and race spectrum over the two-day event.
