Detroit 2013: Fisker Karma-based supersaloon

How do you solve a problem like the Fisker Karma’s electric hybrid powertrain? Easy: you rip its heart out and replace it with the same 7.0-litre V8 engine that’s found in the Corvette ZR1.
The result: the 638hp VL Automotive Destino.
The Fisker Karma has never failed to attract attention. None other than Leonardo DiCaprio and Justin Bieber own the plug-in hybrid supercar. But it has tended to suffer from reliability issues and various quality control problems.

The greenest cars ever – Fisker Karma
There’s never been any doubting the Karma’s stunning looks and wonderful chassis, though. Which is why the idea of someone stripping out the expensive ‘green’ running gear and replacing it with an all-American V8 is nothing short of inspired.
Without the battery pack and hybrid running gear, the Destino weighs 363kg less than the 2,404kg Karma and develops 604lb ft of torque. It will be available with a choice of six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
The chap behind the Desinto is General Motor’s former Vice Chairman, Bob Lutz, who is quoted as saying the car is “an American designed, engineered and manufactured four-door saloon that rivals the Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide”.
He went on to say “we are developing our distribution network now and will deliver Destino on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers will have the option of customising the exterior colour and interior trim”.
If you fancy owning a Destino, its expected to go on sale in the second half of 2013 with prices expected to start around £110,000.
