Clarkson cleared over striking worker jibe

Jeremy Clarkson has been cleared by media watchdog Ofcom following his remarks on the BBC’s The One Show that striking public sector workers should be shot in front of their families.
Clarkson to be investigated by Ofcom
The comments on the BBC One show led to almost 32,000 complaints – but despite this, Ofcom has cleared Clarkson.
Should Clarkson have been cleared?
The regulator said viewers should be familiar with Clarkson’s “provocative and outspoken nature”, which was also referred to in the programme’s introduction.
“Consequently, the editorial nature of the programme as a whole would have prepared viewers for the type of comments Jeremy Clarkson would be likely to make,” said Ofcom.
Clarkson’s tongue in cheek comments were aired on 30 November, as public sector workers embarked on a one-day strike over changes to pension schemes.
Ofcom director Christopher Woolard explained its decision to clear Clarkson of breaking broadcasting regulations in a letter to Unison, which lodged a complaint with Ofcom.
The regulator said it was “clear to most viewers that his comments were not an expression of seriously held beliefs or views that should be literally interpreted”.
Clarkson’s apology after the event was also taken into account: Unison accepted this and, it has emerged, also invited Clarkson to spend a day with a healthcare assistant.

Get a life people!! This is Jeremy Clarkson. Mr open my mouth and put my foot in it, regularly. That does not mean to say that he actually means what he says, he just winds people up for the sake of it. The most successful motoring program ............ EVER!!!
WTG Jeremy. Program is fantastic, keep up the good work
Stop taking everything soooooo seriously
Once again a miss-represented media storm over a part quote taken out of context. The morons who complain without seeing the programme or taking Mr Clarkson's whole unedited statement from start to finish into consideration deserve the cheap rubbish journalism that this country produces. 4 million Sun readers cannot be wrong, the paper said it so it must be true etc.
At the time I first thought the strikers were woefully misguided and irresponsible but did not contemplate taking any action against them. However, on hearing Mr Clarkson's comments I thought I should perhaps shoot a few. Fortunately I don't own or have access to any firearms. I looked for my son's catapult but by the time I located it (he is very untidy) I had began to reconsider my actions - also it turned out the elastic was broken. In any event I decided that just being superior to these 'boo-hoo we don't like it" folk was sufficient. I must confess however that I still get a little twitchy if I hear or see Bob Crow.
A sensible decision from the judge!
What JC should really have said is that anyone without a sense of humour should not be allowed to breed.
I must add that I am a retired public service employee!!
We need a few more people like him in the public eye.
