Chris Evans approves his own Lotus special

Chris Evans has visited the Lotus HQ in Norfolk to sign off the bespoke Lotus Evora S he brought at auction last month in support of the Freddie Mercury HIV and AIDS charity.

The Chris Evans car collection

The ‘Freddie inspired’ Evora S was the star of the Freddie Mercury 65th birthday party at London’s Savoy in August: the charity auction was held to raise money for the Mercury Phoenix Trust.

Star lot was the unique Lotus Evora S, which was finished in white with a red and gold centre stripe. The Lotus Design team also created special logos including one that references the Montreux Freddie Mercury memorial statue, complete with the words “Lover of life, Singer of songs”.

A one-off yellow interior bedecked with union jacks was also designed. The final specification was, however, to be confirmed – and it is these finishing touches that Evans agreed during his visit.

The car is destined to expand his amazing car collection even further: the car’s white body colour is thus fitting.

During his visit, Evans also had a tour (and impromptu autograph signing session) of the production line with his son Noah, and apparently also visited the top secret Design Studio where he saw Lotus’ future designs up close.

It seems these inspired him: in a subsequent email to Lotus, Evans said that he was ‘officially especially excited over what I took a sneak peak at concerning certain future production cars.

‘Time machine required – get them in the showrooms asap so the world can look on in wonder.’

Evans also thanked the design team for helping him spec his Freddie Mercury Tribute Evora S ‘in the spirit with which it deserves’. Expect to see plenty more of the one-off Lotus Evora S, further raising awareness of the Mercury Phoenix Trust, when Evans takes delivery of his car in the coming months.

Don’t be surprised to see him in one of the F1-inspired Lotus T125 track day cars when he does so, either. Apparently, it was mooted during his visit to the Lotus HQ: his response was simply ‘count me in!’…
