Children’s charity in Italian Job Mini rally

Variety, The Children’s Charity, has teamed up with the Italian Job 2012 – a yearly driving event in Europe – to pilot a fleet of Minis and other classic cars from the original 1969 movie across Italy.
The aim of the rally is to raise awareness and money for the charity that cares for sick, disabled and disadvantage children across the UK.

Robert Powell – who played the character Yellow in the British caper film – believes, said: “it’s great to be involved in an event which not only celebrates a classic British film, especially a film which means so much to me personally, but also raises money for children throughout the UK.
“I have been a supporter of Variety for many years so I was honoured when they asked me to be involved.”
With a focus on helping sick or disadvantaged children make the most of their childhood, Variety provides practical support through its mobility, caring and heath programmes, donating Sunshine Coaches, electric wheelchairs and equipment for equipping children’s hospitals.
The charity also provides exciting and memorable experiences through its youth and education initiatives, such as Variety at Work. In 2011 alone, the charity ensured that almost 60,000 children throughout the UK were taken on fun days out.
According to Italian Job road rally founder, Frederick St George, the event is now in its 22nd year and “gives the opportunity of a lifetime and the chance to help build a happier future for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.”
