This dilapidated-looking classic is a Bugatti Type 51 Grand Prix car and it's going up for auction at Brightwells on the 26th September with a guide price of between £100,000 to £150,000. Cheap for a classic Bugatti, you might be thinking? Well, this barn find isn't quite what it seems...

How come when i open barn doors, all i find is hay, a few mice and the odd farm tool, nothing as exciting as this.

The Bugatti was a race car and thus had no boot and was not intended to be a normal day use car, in the days when these cars were raced they had neither roll bars, nor safety belts, so why the very stupid comparison with the Range Rover Evoque (not Evoke)!
If it is a replica, it is a very accurate one and I would be very surprised if it only went for a few £100k.
For the muppet who commented on the Fiat outside the garage Alan Riley knew his cars, owning a number of what would be now rare and sought after vehicles, so all you have done is expose your total ignorance and there were NOT the people available in the 80's that could, "for a few quid" verify a cars authenticity!

A beauty in it's own right with an air of authenticity at a price that wouldn't wreck the marriage.
(Just 'phoned the War Office to make sure she's bought some Lotry Tckts......)
You can bet your **** that with a back-story like that there'll be plenty of bids going in.
Flying jacket, aviation goggles, leather helmet and red spotted 'kerchief on the shopping list.
Maybe Scarlett Johanssen would like to navigate. And then I woke up!

Some depressing Saddo comments.......it is a Historical Car which gives an insight into the history of cars, so whats wrong with that. Better than looking at some modern day violent daft computer game. If it had been found in the USA you would never heard the last of exeggrated hype.

No one has mentioned that the number plate is not original - that series was reserved by DVLA to put on vehicles that were reregistered - a pointer that it might be a replica built from parts hence the later stle of plate??

One would suggest to MSN that if this example of automotive nostalgia is a replica, i.e. it is not the genuine article that it's former keeper may once have believed it to be (but soon realised that it wasn't given that it was subsequently left in a garage uncared-for without regular maintenance routines), then the article headline should state, Barn Find Bugatti Type 51 Replica up for auction, or something very similar; the entire emphasis being on the word (and fact of it being a) replica.
