Bond on his bike: Honda for 007 in Skyfall

Honda will provide vehicles for the next James Bond movie, Skyfall, set for release in October this year.

The 23rd film in the series of 007 spy action thrillers will feature a number of Honda CRF 250R motorcycles specially modified for an opening chase sequence shot in Istanbul and Adana, Turkey.

Twenty motorcycles were provided in total to be adapted into ‘native-style’ motorbikes – given the state of the bike in the pictures, it appears the machines have been properly “distressed”.

The chase sequence sees Daniel Craig as 007 chasing a rogue henchman through the warren-like streets of Istanbul.

The two-wheeled pursuit was filmed by two larger, more powerful Honda CRF 450R motorbikes to keep pace with the various stunts and manoeuvres.

Stunt coordinator for Skyfall, Gary Powell:

“We needed a highly versatile and quality off-road motorbike that could be easily modified, without compromising performance or safety, for the opening sequence of Skyfall.

“Honda’s CRFs are probably the best off-roaders out there so it’s great that we’ve been able to partner with Honda as the bikes, whilst heavily modified, were superb to work with.”

The special Bond bikes were unveiled today (17 July 2012) at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, alongside the recently opened Bond In Motion exhibition. The display catalogues 50 years of vehicles in the James Bond film series with 50 of the most iconic vehicles on show.

Bond’s preferred mode of four-wheeled transport in the latest film has not yet been confirmed. But speculation suggests Craig will once again be behind the wheel of an original Aston Martin DB5

Though spy photos on set suggest MSN Cars early report about the presence of a Range Rover Evoque is appearing increasingly likely to be correct.

The Bond In Motion exhibition runs until the 31st December 2012.
