Bloodhound SSC in landmark rocket test
The rocket that will be used in the Bloodhound SSC car, which is attempting to challenge the world land speed record, was fired for the first time in Newquay today.
With the test having gone to plan, Andy Green intends to pilot the £10million Bloodhound rocket car beyond the 1,000mph mark - that's faster than a bullet. Success would mean the land speed record being beaten by the biggest margin, ever.

Four words Andy - JUST GO FOR IT!!!!!
You want to eliminate starvation and poverty in the third world? Stop them having children. It's that simple.
I'm sick and tired of TV ads with kids drinking 'polluted' water or lying there with a line inserted but no IV attached and messages that 'we are saving children for a brighter future' because I've been there and it is all total BS.
The problem is overpopulation. If you stop the next two generations being born in these countries the one that follows may have a bright future. If you let the current rate of population increase continue uncontrolled forget it - in 50 years time we will still be dealing with the same old scenario.
good to think of a target like that, just make sure you do not kill yourself in the attempt.
too many good men have died chasing dreams!
I love the fact that this is another Brit Project
Go for it Andy .
I think when you go that fast--!!! the wheels become irrelevant -? it then becomes something else ? NOT A CAR , Might as well put this Rocket machine on a track( or in a tube ? ) and do a contest from one end of the country to the other. Or maybe through the Channel tunnel , that would cut the travelling time down.
The Great that used to be associated with Britain was built by people and projects just like this. Sometimes someone with blood that is the real red stuff sticks his neck out and achieves something, it is the way empires and whole new worlds were created, and it is a shame that the very country that launched the world into the industrial revolution fell so far behind in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Don't ever put these people down, if we had a lot more of this kind of gutsy spirit, the Americans, French and Germans et al would not own half of our country and it's infrastructure. As has been said before, the politician, the head in the sand accountant and the unions amongst others brought this country to it's knees.
Add the likes of Messrs Branson, Dyson, Noble and company together to run the country and watch the sparks fly! Let the risk taking begin and a shed load of excitement would be on the cards.
It would be risky for sure, but hell, with the country in the state it's in what's to lose, and after all is said and done, it has been done before. We could call it the phoenix operation!
that there are staving and diseased children in the world go out and directly help instead of moaning on this forum, which is to celebrtae a group of people going out to set a world record!
Good luck to the team and ANDY balls out and go for it!
Just for the moaners on here, the £10million is private money, not public, thus the people who have sponsored this can spend it any way they want.
£10million is peanuts comperd to the £12billion that we spend on foreign aid, if you worry so much that there are staving and diseased children in the world go out and directly help instead of moaning on this forum, which is to celebrtae a group of people going out to set a world record!
Good luck to the team and ANDY balls out and go for it!
