What is the Aussie Invader 5R?
This 1,000mph dart is the Aussie Invader 5R and - you guessed it - it's from the land that gave the world the didgeridoo. It's a whopping 16 metres in length and weighs 6.2 tonnes, but these aren't the most staggering numbers surrounding the project...

I doubt it would qualify in the same class as Thrust SSC even if it did exceed the standing record because of the wheel arrangement as it's clearly a tricycle (Not a car), even if the front wheel is in two parts, whereas Thrust SSC had four completely independent wheels.. (Just about). and would still hold the land speed record for a car..

1000 mph in 20 seconds? V = UT + half AT squared from a standing start ... the acceleration works out at 2.225 metres per second per second. I guess that's about half you'd get from a fairground ride.
Still, could be quite fun. ;)
