The CoolBrands initiative was set up in 2001 and asks consumers and leading experts to name the coolest brand in the UK: criteria include style, innovation, authenticity, originality and desirability.
10,000 brands are initially identified, shortened to 1,500 and then, with the help of 36 influencers including Jessie J, Rob da Bank and Sadie Frost, further whittled down to a coolest brand top 500.
It is this list that Aston Martin tops – because, said chairman of the CoolBrands Council Stephen Cheliotis, it is ‘truly the coolest of the cool.
‘Smooth, sexy and sophisticated; British built, high quality and hand finished, let’s be honest, young or old, male or female, opinion former or British public, who wouldn’t aspire to own what is truly the coolest car on the road.’
Aston Martin has enhanced its cool brand status this year with the launch of the new V12 Zagato. This will go into production at the end of the year, once the 77th and final Aston Martin One-77 has been built.
The Aston Martin Virage is another cool new car, highly rated by MSN Cars, while we also awarded Five Star Car status to the Aston Martin Vantage S.
The jury remains out on just how cool the Toyota iQ-derived Aston Martin Cygnet city car actually is – but as it doesn’t seem to have affected its official ‘cool brand’ status this year, maybe even this could eventually turn out to be a cool Aston Martin…
