Fonzie’s motorbike goes to auction

Ehhhhhh! Want an easy route to becoming the coolest person you – or any of your friends – know? Then you clearly need to buy the motorcycle that Fonzie rode in Happy Days.

A customised 1949 Triumph Trophy TRS Scrambler, the actual bike ridden by Henry Winkler’s character during the famous 1974-1984 television show is going to auction as part of the Bonhams’ annual Classic California sale.

As if it wasn’t already icy cold enough, however, the bike was owned and prepared by the legendary Bud Ekins. Applying the term legend to a man many of you may not have heard of would usually be risky – but definitely not in this case.

In addition to being Hollywood’s go-to guy for motorbikes, this motorcross racer and stuntman is the chap who made the famous barbwire fence jump in The Great Escape, as well as being Steve McQueen’s best friend.

Ekins is entirely responsible for choosing what The Fonze would ride; having selected an old Triumph from his warehouse collection of hundreds of bikes, he removed the front fender and sprayed the fuel tank silver – creating the exact machine pictured here.

The Bonhams’ California Classic sale, which traditionally features property from famous actors every year, takes place on Saturday 12 November.

We can’t wait to see how much someone is prepared to pay for this level of cool. So to kill the time we’re off to thump a jukebox in Fonzie’s honour.
