Honda has announced a series of concepts for the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show – with the star exhibit being an exciting all-electric performance car called the Small Sports EV Concept.

Sitting low on the ground, with its raked back profile, Honda hopes the Small Sports EV Concept’s sleek coupé design and promised sports car dynamics will tempt keen drivers into a new, more environmentally friendly way of getting their motoring kicks.

Of course, Honda will have to actually build it before that can happen. And perhaps think of a catchier title.

Amongst the various other urban mobility and odd-looking motorcycle concepts Honda is also showing at Tokyo, there are tow other outstanding car-based designs that catch the imagination.

First is the AC-X. With styling not a million miles away from the 2012 Honda Civic (that is to say, futuristic), this is a next-generation plug-in hybrid that’s intended to be efficient for both urban and long distance journeys. It promises a choice of driving modes to suit your mood.

The Micro Commuter Concept, meanwhile, is a tiny electric city car, designed by Honda to make all-electric motoring affordable. Helping to give it maximum flexibility, it has the latest concept version of the Honda Motor Compo two-wheel electric vehicle slotted inside.

Handy if you run out of juice in the middle of nowhere. Or just fancy running about on something that looks like a cassette deck (remember those?) on wheels.
