Range Rover hits 1 million

Land Rover has today produced the 1 millionth Range Rover and promptly donated the £85k motor to armed forces charity Help for Heroes.

The donation came as the Range Rover was driven to the Earls Court MPH Show in a celebratory cavalcade – where Help for Heroes patron Jeremy Clarkson was to take delivery of the famous Range Rover prior to the Top Gear Live event.

It will be auctioned later in the year to raise funds for the charity, and more than £100,000 is expected to be raised.

This will make it the world’s most expensive production Range Rover, said MD Phil Popham at the Solihull factory event.

During the ceremony, he also paid tribute to Range Rover designer Spen King, who sadly passed away earlier this year. “None of us would be here if it wasn’t for him.”

After departing from the Solihull Lode Lane production line, the 1 millionth Range Rover then led a cavalcade of Range Rovers through the ages en route to London.

It will meet up with Clarkson and his wife Francie, also a Help for Heroes patron, tonight (Thursday 4 November).

MSN Cars was at the factory to see the 1 millionth model roll off the production line. Come back soon for a full feature gallery of the historic event!
