£5,995 Suzuki Alto becomes cheapest new car

From now until 30th September, the Suzuki Alto SZ is available for just £5,995 – making it the cheapest car on sale in the UK.
At the same time, Suzuki has announced that the addition of Dual VVT (Variable Valve Timing) to the Alto’s 1.0-litre petrol engine has reduced emissions to 99g/km CO2, where the standard five-speed manual gearbox is fitted.

This means the 68hp three-cylinder unit now falls into the £0 road tax band and is exempt from the London Congestion Charge, representing a potential annual saving of up to £2,600.
Claimed fuel economy also increases 1.5mpg to 65.7mpg combined, and the insurance rating for all Alto models is a low Group 4E – making it not only inexpensive to buy but cheap to run as well.
You will still need to allow plenty of time to get anywhere, however, as the Alto continues to require 13.5 seconds to go 0-62mph. Top speed is also unchanged at 96mph.
The £5,995 offer price is part of a “VAT free” promotion, and includes all the on the road fees. Since the Suzuki Alto SZ is supposed to cost £7,195, that’s a substantial saving of £2,200.
