£1.4m bounty for Motorexpo exotica

What recession? At last week’s Motorexpo show in Canary Wharf, bankers splurged more than £1.4 million in city bonuses on a diverse array of exotica.
Motorexpo 2012: London’s free premium motorshow
During the week-long show, upscale auctioneers H&H Classics put together a mouth-watering selection of rare metal to tempt London’s banking community out of the office, including an ultra-rare Lamborghini Reventon – one of only 20 ever made.
It wasn’t just modern metal helping to open cheque books, as classics also went under the hammer – including a painstakingly restored 1963 lightweight Jaguar E-type Roadster boasting a Le Mans pedigree.
Amongst the other automotive delectations up for grabs were a 2008 Ford GT, a Ferrari F40 (in desirable non-cat form), a 1997 Jaguar XJ220 and a brace of Bentley Continentals.
Rather aptly, an immaculate example of that stalwart ‘80s city boy favourite, the 930 model Porsche 911 Turbo, also found a new home. With just 40,000 miles and in special order Smoky Quartz metallic, it must have been the perfect accessory to those red braces and Gucci loafers.
H&H’s Marketing Manager, Richard Caton said of Canary Wharf’s wealthy petrolheads: “They proved to be rewardingly receptive to what we had to offer and achieving over £1.4 million worth of orders at our first attempt was most encouraging.” What recession indeed.
