£25,000 Aston Martin One-77 Cycle revealed

The Aston Martin One-77 is no longer just a £1million supercar – the same name now applies to a £25,000 pushbike. This is the Aston Martin One-77 Cycle, and it’s very, very clever.

As it needs to be, to justify that kind of price. Marketed by Factor and built by Formula 1 parts supplier bf1systems, it not only boasts a radical, lightweight carbonfibre design, it’s also packed with datalogging equipment.

It completely ignores the regulations governing road bike rules – rendering it useless in officially sanctioned competitions – in order, the makers say, to “focus on the riding experience”.

Each bike is custom made to the buyer’s individual measurements. The only off-the-shelf parts are the bearings, the tyres and the electrically operated gear-selection control.

The frame is incredibly rigid, while the use of hydraulic disc brakes allows the fitment of ultra-lightweight carbonfibre wheels. But it’s the presence of all the on-board electronics that creates something really special.

Completely integrated into the bike’s construction, these comprise no less than 73 individual channels, monitoring every possible aspect of the rider’s performance.

In other words, this is the Aston Martin-branded version of the £23,000 Factor 001, which is also built by bf1systems. The first of these was reportedly sold to Lewis Hamilton.

So where exactly does Aston Martin come in here?

And of course, like its automotive namesake, there will only ever be 77 of them.
