This is the Curiosity rover and it's a science lab on wheels. The exploration vehicle has touched down on the surface of Mars as part of NASA's mission to ascertain whether the currently inhospitable Red Planet ever had an atmosphere to sustain life. As you can imagine, it's pretty sophisticated.

This is a world of apathy, selfishness and greed and there are millions in need. This is not the fault of those who want to satisfy their curiosity about the unknown. There are a lot of those who are the powers that be, that are responsible for many of the situations that cause the suffering, as well as natural disasters that come upon the human race. It may have cost billions but it's achieved something and from it, may come some benefits to the future.

Hey Ross, i thought the two mapping satellites that the chinese have got at this moment orbiting the moon taking the most detailed ever images of the surface have published pictures of the apollo landing sites. Footprints, lunar rover tracks and the remains of the lunar module bases are visible. Oh no, dont tell me, they have gone n drawn them in hav'nt they, the little tinkers.

What a waste of money. Really why would it be important to know what could have wiped out life on our nearest neighbour, after all it's not like it could find anything that could equally happen to us.
Be realistic and accept that a lot of early research takes time for the true benefits to appear. If you are thinking otherwise, how did you manage to be typing or reading words I have typed on a computer? In case you are wondering it was from a whole bunch of people 'wasting money' on research in various fields, including telecommunication, semiconductors etc.

Mars landing conspiracy theory. I thought there was a possibility of this having been a hoax. However I was wrong and have watched evidence of this fact. We are able to detect the ever increasing distance between us and our satellite because of devices left on the surface able to reflect transitions from earth. The flag waving has been proven realistic, low gravity doesn't mean no movement etc.
Believing a theory is one thing, refusing to accept when it is debunked is stupidity. I personally am glad I was wrong.

Its worth every penny to prove we are not unique in the Solar System - let alone the universe. Apart from which no research is ever truly wasted - those that think it is too expensive are small minded and cannot see the big picture. - in perspective. - But then as Douglas Adams said - "The last thing a sentient being needs (in the universe) is a sense of perspective"

Find it hard to see the point of spending so much to prove so little...?? If there are signs there ever was life... what's difference is that really going to make... it still wont prove there was or is any other life out there... if they say there are signs that mars might once have had water, does that really prove anything..??? Surely 1.6 billion would be better spent on trying to work out how to sustain life on Earth better..??

Ken sounds sounds like he may have to admit the spoof Moon landing wasn't even the best con of all. We did so many vastly more and better make up during the last world war one. Where cities and land marks were altered. Landscapes changed. The moon landing was far easier, but too many goofs spoilt it. Shame, for many so wanted it to be true.
Mind the good that came from Space exporations are astronomical to inventions and betterments .... shame they were and are abused and exploited also so very often.
Mind I think that they may have actually landed this craft.
