Audi Crosslane Coupe concept at the 2012 Paris Motor Show

Seemingly not content with revealing a facelifted version of its flagship R8 V10 supercar - and a new V10 Plus model alongside it - as well as the practical A3 Sportback, sporty S3 and a drop-top version of the RS5; Audi has also unveiled a coupe concept.

What is it?

It's called the Crosslane and according to the four-ringed firm from Ingolstadt, it previews the design direction of future Q models - the carmaker's SUV line. There are muted murmurings around the show floor here in Paris that this could quite conceivably point towards a new Audi Q2 model.

What's hot?

Audi's claims that this car's 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and twin electric motor setup will deliver 177hp combined, with potential fuel economy of 256.8mpg and as little as 26g/km CO2 emissions. The German manufacturer is claiming electric-only propulsion is available at up to 80mph and for a range of 53 miles, too.

What's not?

If those figures are to be believed, not a great deal. Even for a concept car, however, its styling is pretty generic Audi - it's all hooded lights, large grille and sharp creases. Going by the firm's current sales, though, that works.

How much and when?

The Crosslane concept is just that at the minute, and Audi hasn't expressed any plans to put it into production. However, that's never stopped it before. With Q models selling like hot cakes and, given a good reception, we could quite conceivably be seeing a smaller Audi Q model in the near future.

Anything else I should know?

That 177hp combined output is enough to propel the 2+2-seater Crosslane to 62mph in 8.6 seconds. In electric-only mode it'll complete the same dash in 9.8. Audi claims a top speed of 113mph is achievable and this is all alongside those awesome quoted efficiency figures. We're not saying both the performance and economy are attainable at the same time, however...
