Maserati has unveiled its new GranTurismo Sport here at Geneva 2012, joining the range between the GranTurismo S and the hard core MC Stradale - and we're pleased to report it's as achingly gorgeous as ever.

What is it?
The new 2+2 GranTurismo Sport coupé "is characterised by increased performance and an elegant overall restyling, stressing its sporty nature," according to Maserati. So basically the new car is faster and looks better. All good so far.

What's hot?
The striking new front end features a redesigned front bumper (engineered to optimise airflow and improve engine and brake cooling) as well as new headlamps incorporating LED running lights. It keeps the GranTurismo's elegant nose but gives a more rakish, purposeful stance to the performance-focused GT.

What's not?
The hefty 1,880kg kerb weight of all GranTurismo variants means efficiency isn't great - The GranTurismo S returns just 17.2mpg combined and 385g/km CO2 emissions, so with no weight loss and more power set for the Sport, the latest Maserati coupé doesn't look set to improve things.

How much and when?
The Italian automaker is yet to confirm pricing or a UK launch date for the new GranTurismo Sport, but with a bit more power and a minor set of revisions over the S, expect it to go on sale this year priced around £95,000.

Anything else I should know?
The GranTurismo S's 4.7-litre V8 has been reworked for the Sport, upping power by 20hp to 460hp and torque to 383lb ft. That means the new car's 0-62mph sprint time stands at 4.7 seconds with the optional six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Whether Maserati can improve performance without affecting efficiency remains to be seen.
