I would just like to add that my son also paid £3000.00 for insurance on a 7 year old Clio.

I would also like to know where these quotes have come from, absolutely ridiculous.

Why should they be penalised when there are thousands of un-insured drivers on the roads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most students who have cars also have doting parents who cover their costs, and then some... (Perhaps "doting" is the wrong word: "dotage" seems more relevant to their mentalities.) Anyway, as long as somebody else is paying and there's no come-back, any self-respecting person - student or otherwise - will take the money and run.

Young people (and their parents) need a healthy injection of common sense and determination regarding travel to, at and from their colleges. Most student accommodation is within walking distance of the campusses, and those that are further away are often served by buses. A bicycle is cheaper than buses and faster than walking. Student railcards discount their train fares (bicycles are carried free on off-peak trains). So why would any able-bodied student NEED a car?
