Three years can be a long time in cars. The good news is that the cars are much more affordable. The bad is that they may have been usurped by newer models. But despite new metal such as the Mini Coupe now on its tail, the Scirocco remains the best affordable sports hatch there is - and now 2008 revvy petrol models are yours from just £11,000. TE

Used Volkswagen Sciroccos from just £11,000

We seem to have missed the point here. We only want what we can't afford. That is why those of us with the money to own these things, still drive 20year old Volvo Estates!

really! an early Lotus Elan in the rain on a roundabout, are you trying to get people killed?

I think your most expensive example should of been no more than five grand. Sure some look like a bargain, but are a pain to maintain, real money pits, unless your a mechanic or know an enthusiast who knows what he's doing.

I'm not trying to be funny here, but for £2000 you can buy a 2.2 SRi 150 Vauxhall Vectra with 52 reg plate and less than 70k on the clock. Sure it's got a Vauxhall badge, not cool, but that's a lot of car for **** all.

im onto my 2nd boxster now, i realised how cheap they were getting years ago, my last was a 1997 110k miles FPSH for 5k , my latest is a stunning 2000 silver model FPSH with red leather, only 72k on the clock and a steals at 4250, stick a dateless plate on and looks like a cars 5 times the price. Parts can be bought thru various sites very reasonably priced and get to know a good mechanic that realises its just another car so he doesnt overcharge for repairs etc, by far the best car ive ever owned. Porsche service history is worth its weight in gold when you come to resell, at least make sure its stamped upto date when you get it then a good independent garage can take it from there. Lots of porsche specialist garages about aswe for the fraction of a dealer service.

Anyone in the market for an E-Type. Think the number plate (666) worth as much as this British racing green goer

The banner headline 'Affordable cars you didn't think you could afford attracted me to this site.  The only car i could conceivably afford at the minute is the Alfa, and they are not cheap to run or maintain.  Does anyone know of a main dealer that works with monopoly money.

Jeez why all the negativity!? Many of these are great buys; cars in excellent condition for a fraction of their original price. Running costs just require a bit more financial commitment. If you want a better car its going to cost you more to run. Go figure.

I remember when you could buy a M.K. 11  Jaguar  [with wire wheels] for less than £200 ! .

Some classic stuff  was worth nothing in the 60s with big engines & expensive parts & servicing . I remember being told by a mechanic at the Jag. dealers - " If you can afford to service & run one properly , you can afford a new one" ! . At the prices quoted at the base of the photo's I wouldn't call any of them a bargain . And  most  are not family  motors anyway -more like men's  mid-life crisis toys .

Reply to Gary's post:-

YE GOD'S Gary!

That does seem a little insecure of you. To buy an OLD car and then re-plate it to fool people into thinking you are driving around in in something newer and more expensive is very sad?

Aim high Gary,. Be proud of who you are and what you achieve. Most of all though. KEEP BOTH FEET ON THE GROUND

I'm sure you are a really nice guy with a very bright future but trying to fool the guy's around you is not the way to get there.

God Bless and have a great 2012
