The Top Gear power lap has become a rite of passage for the fastest cars in the world. Every Top Gear series, the latest supercars, hypercars and loony-tunes track weapons arrive at the Top Gear test track and take their shot at glory in the hands of the show’s tame racing driver, The Stig.
Achieving top spot in the power lap list can do wonders for a performance car’s profile but the competition is so fierce, you can bet that anything making the top 20 is stupendously quick.
Entry onto the table is strictly limited to road legal production cars so a lap in Pagani’s specially prepared Zonda R of 1.08.05s didn’t count and neither did Michael Schumacher’s 1.10.07s lap in Ferrari’s FXX prototype.
