Some of these may look like a bargain , but buyer beware . If you had a accident or even a minor scrape most body panels on some of these rare cars would be unobtainable . And when I was in the trade a mechanic that worked for a large classic & collectors car sales company told me that if you could afford to run & service these sort of motors at the correct intervals you could afford a new one ! . I would like the soft -top roller though .

Nothing unusual about some of these cars, but the Maserati 3200 I have a soft spot for, there were only around 4700 made and around 870 came to the UK, now there are even less. I have owned a 1999 model for about 6 years, everyone who sees it loves it, it’s a beautiful car, but does cost a bit to keep it on the road. With petrol at the price it is now, makes running it even more expensive, especially with an mph of 15 miles to the gallon, good job I only do about 1000 miles a year in it.

So what the guy below is saying that you could find a panel beater/specialist to create a new panel for a corniche (??) that is better than original however much would that cost, cheap service for SL - yeah rite!
People do build great cars in lockups etc thats true but porsche, merc etc (??) and most who still exist have high costs (usually) associated.
Oh and im so gutted you will be keeping all those other high caliber cars to yourself but cheers for letting us in on the mondeo :)

Oh, I forgot.
In Cuba you can get a wing made for ANY car ever made, right in front of you.
And if you are willing to pay for a top class Cuban panel beater, he will make you a near identical item from an old oil drum and using only a hammer and bag of sand.
Blacksmiths here were producing MORE complex shapes in suits of armour HUNDREDS of years ago.
I happen to be a qualified Blacksmith myself and know how easy it is for a trained engineer to produce EVERYTHING YOU SEE AROUND YOU !.
A Roller wing is almost ALL flat surfaces and REALLY EASY to copy.
Or are you suggesting that we here in the home of engineering, with our power tools and available facilities (even WIND TUNNELS !), can not do a better job than a 14th century artisan or Cuban bloke with a hammer ?.

You have got to love the VW Corrado; it handles like it's supposed to and still looks modern, even now! A few of those cars are still demanding good money, but as a fan and owner of a Corrado, they are not overly-expensive compared to cars like the Nissan Skyline and Maserati. If I could afford the servicing costs I’d love a BMW Z1

So what the guy below you was saying was that I have seen MANY a fine custom car built to SUPERIOR to Rolls Royce standards, and if any other less short sighted petrol heads out there want to buy a car built to RIDICULOUSLY high standards, no expense spared, you can do worse than looking at one of those babies.
AND they are not just unusual, they are UNIQUE !.
What the guy above you is saying is, not all quality cars do cost a lot to buy OR maintain.
At my personal expense I have found that it is ALWAYS better to buy second-hand quality than new rubbish. If you buy ANY nice car, service it when required and DO NOT CRASH IT !, you will get many, many smug miles out of it and get most or MORE of your money back when you sell it.
(That requires TLC.)
What costs more to maintain, a low quality car that needs lots of bits fixed regularly, or a quality car that has had ALL its main bugs ironed out and costs NOTHING in repairs ?.
The Mondeo is a BRILLIANT car, (I had one), and Top Gear agrees !, but the Zonda is a natural progression from that little beauty, so please just leave me a red one, and a silver one, and a yellow one, ......

This is the way to buy a car.
No sheep here, no running with the herd and blending in with repetitive obscurity.
These cars say "Mondeos are great" (and they are), and "hatch backs are practical" (and they are), but these cars say "I am different, I am of a rarer breed, and I will hold your interest while the others are forgotten".
There are more cars of this calibre too, but I won't mention them because I want to keep the price down for me. Just don't buy all the Zondas.

Further to the comments about repair costs for scarce and prestige cars.
If you look for a way you can normally find a second hand part or an innovative panel beater or machine shop willing to make you an even better quality copy of your original (faulty) part.
People build fine cars in lock-ups and sheds, so NOTHING is impossible to the determined, seeking mind.
You can also buy cars with real personality that are so cheap, if you wreck them, you can just buy another car.
(the Mondeo 2.5 V6 and Jag XJ comes to mind).
Go on, be different !.
