Car: Peugeot 407 (2004-2011)
Claim/breakdown rate: 46%

There's another Peugeot in the bottom ten - this time the now-superseded 407 saloon and estate. Sharing space in the unreliable rankings with VW's Touran, the 407 has a breakdown rate of 46%. That's thanks mostly to problems with the braking system. Repairs also count amongst the highest surveyed - the largest bill being £3,700.

Most issues seem to be axle/suspension related, which suggests the problems lie more with the quality of the roads than the vehicles.

Warranty Direct need to be in the bottom 10 in their field. Always trying to duck out of paying warranty claims, not an honourable company at all.

we have had a Vauxhall vectra from new in 2004 and have not had a single problem. I also had an older shaped vectra for 5 years and never had a problem with that either.

Over the years I have had 5 vauxhalls and they have all beeen extremely reliable.

I had a Vauxhall Omega, it rusted so bad i swept up it's remnants in a dustpan and placed it in an urn, which sits on my mantlepiece as a reminder to never buy another Vauxhall. Bought a Mondeo, and a fresh urn.

Seems axle / suspension could be an issue for VAG cars - my parent's Bora creaks a lot at the rear suspension.

The manufacturers know what the roads are like here in England, so they should build their cars to suit. It could be argued that anything less is not of merchantable quality.
Where do these £1,000's repair bills come from? I have never seen such ridiculous figures for suspension and steering, let alone engine problems. Somebody on here wrote that the warranty company was not all that it could be with regard to honouring claims - well, I would suggest that they are up to something dubious with their pricing systems too.
There is absolutely no excuse for electrical problems in this day and age, with the possible exception of relays. These cost varying amounts, I would suggest an average of £20 each, taking about ten minutes to replace.

I have had 10 cars in the last 20 years not that I have had problems with them and all where Vauxhall I just get bored.

The Vauxhall had a bad reputation many years ago as rust buckets and engine problems.  Ford produced engines for Vauxhall for quite some time which proved to be reliable.

Now Vectra is the one for me and Vauxhalls are dam good cars.

As for your rust bucket in a dust pan this was the era when old washing machines had been used even Ford for building their cars.  Metals have change in the production and has the paint they use.  You just got a bad one.

The high prices of reported repairs are simple to explain - Warranty and insurance companies can only facter ORIGINAL parts and registered repairers in their dealings and we all know the inflated costs of that direction.  For instance, Buy a BMW headlight from a dealer and then buy a BOSCH headlight (which it is) from a shop and see the difference in price -

brought  a 2007 diesel vectra 11 months  ago,and have had numerous repairs on it, only one suspension problem though  the rest are electrical problems. i will not buy another, back to fords for me

Have had mainly Renaults over the past 20 years and YES they are very prone to electrical problems but the mechanics and comfort and level of trim keep me buying them.   You can trust them just don't keep them toooooo long.

What a crap article biased towards, Vw, Peugeot, Renault.

Had a Renault once, it had a design fault which ensured that water leaked past the tailgate into the luggage area. Had a Peugeot once that would unlock itself for no apparent reason, it proved impossible to fix despite being taken to various experts. Have had several Fords, all of them were rust-buckets, the Escort dangerously so.
I now have a Daihatsu Charade which has done over 65,000 trouble-free miles. In all that time, its had about ten tyres, a few steering joints, a couple of drive shafts, a couple of sets of brake disks, one (yes, one) new bulb, no new batteries, and no welding. Its fun to drive, surprisingly roomy, and has a CD player and air-con as standard. I think its great, and I don't work for Daihatsu.
The first four of the 'faults' listed above are due to natural wear and tear, so probably don't count anyway. I have never had a repair bill above £200, most of them were much lower. Its a shame that Daihatsu no longer import the Charade.

give me a vauxhall any time of the day
