The standard version of the Bugatti Veyron (if a 16-cylinder, quad-turbo hypercar with 1,000hp can ever be termed standard) recorded a 1.18.3 for the Top Gear power lap in 2008. It’s since been overhauled by the even more insane Super Sport version.

For the most amazing car on the list is the Nissan GT-R

The fact that a Nissan, with 4 seats and everyday drivability can make it onto that list, is an incredible achievement.

Since when did the Lambo Gallardo 560-4 have a V8? It has a 5.2 V10, the same engine found in the Audi R8 V10 I believe.

I love supercars and I love Top Gear - but these extravagances are the last gasps in an era where super-rich who don't deserve to be, are wasting money they don't understand the real value of on obscene toys. These cars depreciate like a rock, such that they cost their owners tens - perhaps even hundreds - of thousands of pounds per year to sit on their drives. Take the Bently Continental GT - you can buy one two years old for £100,000 less than the new price, but even then you'd be mad to do so - you may be able to afford a £60,000 second-hand Bently, but you not being super-rich, you're still going to find it's 10.5 MPG and £5,000 servicing costs difficult to justify. Flash cars, from whichever financial point you look at them, don't make sence.

What a shame.

Why would you put this list out the day after a new top gear episode. The list is already out of date as the pagani huayra bettered the Atom V8 at 1min 13 seconds. Forgive me I can't remember the time to two decimal places

What's the point of a £500000 sports car what can do 200+mph in this country when anyone who has been on motorway knows you will do no more than 40mph

How many deaths are these fools responsible for? They know full well that their childish program is watched by a load of impressionable, brain dead, petrol heads. So why can't they show a bit of discretion, is it that they just don't have any?

Why the bloody hell they need all that speed for when the speed limit is at best 70mph, yes nice to have a little bit extra for an over take manoeuvre, but there will always be some stupid bastard will have a crash all because of speed, my frontera 4x4 2.2ltr can only manage 95 at top speed max, thats all i can get out of it but i've only done it once, as i dont see why i should knock the **** out of it just to prove a point, i try and stick to speed limits when the roads and weather permits, if the roads are congested the legal speed limit is i stick to when the roads are clear or farely clear i do admit to putting my foot down a bit more but not to the point where i cant stop safely, on dual carriage ways and motorways i just stick to 50mph or just slightly more if the road doesnt have any other roads off it, but i still cant see the point of putting all that power in a car unless your taking it on a proper reace track.
